MANSOOR M. AMIJI

Principle Investigator

Dr. Mansoor Amiji is a University Distinguished Professor, Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Professor of Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Dr. Amiji teaches both undergraduate and graduate students at Northeastern University. He is also the Director of the Translational Therapeutic Delivery Laboratory. His research is focused on development of biocompatible materials from natural and synthetic polymers, target-specific drug and gene delivery systems for cancer and infectious diseases, and nanotechnology applications for medical diagnosis, imaging, and therapy.
Dr. Amiji is also the Editor for Americas for the journal Drug Delivery and Translational Research (DDTR), an official journal of the Controlled Release Society, published by Springer Nature.

LARA MILANE

Assistant Teaching Professor

Dr. Lara Scheherazade Milane is a Bouvé College of Health Sciences Distinguished Educator and Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Northeastern University, Boston, MA. Dr. Milane recently designed and developed Combination Organelle Mitochondrial Endoplasmic reticulum Therapy (COMET) for treating multidrug resistant triple negative breast cancer (2023). Dr. Milane’s research interests include mitochondrial nanomedicine, tunneling nanotube biology, and developing nanotechnology based solutions to manipulate cell communication in multidrug resistant female cancers and neurodegenerative diseases. She coined cancer as “molecular evolution” and “survival of the fittest at its finest” and distinguished three emerging hallmarks of cancer (plasticity, heterogeneity, quiescence; 2017).  Dr. Milane has 26 peer-reviewed journal publications, 9 book chapters, 3 white papers, and is the editor of 5 books. Dr. Milane is also an advocate for women in science and promoting early/pre-college scientific interest and competency.
